Thomas is a defamation and media law litigator with a particular interest in social media law. He also has experience in intellectual property, prepublication clearances, general commercial litigation and mergers and acquisitions.

Thomas takes an innovative and creative approach to problem solving and is an integral part of the media and defamation team, often assisting in complex, fact driven matters across multiple jurisdictions.

Thomas is also an active member of the New South Wales Young Lawyers Communications, Entertainment and Technology Committee and is a member of the Communications and Media Law Association (CAMLA).  Thomas is also the author of the Mark O’Brien Legal Media Law Bulletin.

Thomas has assisted either Mark O'Brien and/or Paul Svilans in:

  • representing numerous high profile clients in defamation proceedings brought against various publishers including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Daily Telegraph, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
  • representing a large family owned and run fashion retailer in a complex commercial dispute.
  • defending Nine Network Australia in numerous defamation proceedings brought in the NSW Supreme Court and District Courts and the Queensland District Courts.
